Mountain Climber, Girl Scout Leader and Great Mom
Deborah Steinberg is an optometrist, mountaineer, weekend warrior, mother and wife of a “very tolerant” Ross… and she is a “Barkie” enthusiast.
Deborah likes variety in her training routine, and rarely has the same workout two days in a row. “I like to trail run, mountain bike, road bike and do strength training at the gym. All of it reduces stress, and makes me a nicer person to be around!” But her real passion is climbing mountains. Deborah recently completed climbing all of the 14,00 ft peaks in California to raise money for STOP CANCER. Along with mountaineering, Deborah has been an active devotee of Girl Scouting and has led a troop for over 13 years and is one of the organizers of Gold Rush Adventure Racing.
In 2012, Deborah saw a post on Facebook advertising an essay contest through REI, and ended up winning a trip to trek to Everest Base Camp in Nepal. Wow – way to go Deb!
“With all that I do, I find “Barkies” to be very versatile. I use them to manage my unruly hair while I am cycling, protect my ears against the wind while I am mountaineering, and better than a bandana for just about everything else.”
